It’s Dry Now but More Rain is on the Way

After an extended dry period that placed our area under drought conditions, we finally received some much-needed rainfall. Observations from several personal weather stations located throughout the Tuscarawas Valley show that a general inch to 1.50 inches fell across the area over the last 24 hours. Some locations got a little more, some a little less, but everyone did receive rain.

The weather system responsible will be slow to exit the area, so we can expect more periods of rain during the next couple of days. The highest odds of additional showers and storms will be on Wednesday and Thursday.

The next impactful rain event will arrive on Wednesday as another upper-level disturbance moves through eastern Ohio. Showers and thunderstorms will become likely again by mid-afternoon. Rainfall from this could be heavy at times, so the National Weather Service has placed our area in a Level 2 risk of excessive rainfall that could lead to localized flooding.

Rain chances will continue into Wednesday night, but coverage and intensity will gradually trend downward. Temperatures will remain warm Wednesday night and Thursday ahead of a cold front. Once again, shower and thunderstorm odds will ramp up as the front approaches, with the highest chances of a gusty thunderstorm and/or another period of heavy rain occurring along the front.

Our weather situation will begin to improve on Friday. A shower or a few sprinkles can’t be ruled out completely, but generally speaking, the chances will only run in the 20% to 30% area in any one location. Current modeling indicates an upper-level ridge of high pressure building overhead that will return dry weather for the weekend.

The NWS Climate Prediction Center 6 to 10 day precipitation outlook leans toward another stretch of dry weather as we wrap up September and head into the first week of October.

One additional weather hazard folks will need to watch for: Some spots could develop patches of dense fog mainly after midnight each night through Thursday night. Foggy conditions will be slow to erode and will likely persist through the morning commute.

Thanks for supporting our area’s only in-depth weather reports and forecasts here on TUSCWeather.
