A warm front will lift through eastern Ohio on Friday, which will bring a pattern change and much warmer temperatures to the Tuscarawas Valley for the weekend and much of next week. There shouldn’t be much moisture in the way with this warm front, and we’ll likely see an increase in clouds as it moves through the region. But rain isn’t likely, and temperatures will warm to around 70° on Friday afternoon.
A much different air mass will become established over the region by Saturday. Temperatures will warm to around 80-ish in most locations, and you may even notice a bit of humidity. Expect a mix of sun and clouds Saturday, and while most locations should stay dry, a spotty shower and maybe even a quick-hitting thunderstorm can’t be ruled out, especially during the afternoon.
The warm temperatures will really kick into gear on Sunday, with Monday looking like the warmest day of the week and maybe even the warmest day of the year so far. (The record high temperature for May 18th in New Phila is 91° set in 1962.)

Along with the warmer temperatures, we will also see the humidity ratchet up as well. While the humidity won’t get extreme or anything, you will most likely notice it turning a bit muggy outdoors. It will be especially noticeable on Monday as temperatures climb to the upper-80s.

Along with this summerlike weather pattern, we also have to consider the potential for summerlike thunderstorms. Some of the model ensembles suggest the potential for low-predictability “ridge-runner” type storms developing out in the Midwest that could spread eastward into parts of Ohio.
The first opportunity could come as early as Saturday, with another on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. However, much will depend on how the environment evolves over the next several days. Daytime heating and cloud cover will play a big role in all of this, but these would be the days to keep an eye on for strong/severe storm development.

Whether or not we do happen to be on the receiving end of any severe weather, it does look like we’ve finally turned the corner as it relates to warmer temperatures. The Climate Prediction Center favors above-average temperatures to remain in the forecast through the end of the month, at least.
