Feeling Like Summer Today and Tuesday; Storms Possible Late Tuesday with a Cold Front

Today and Tuesday will likely be the warmest days of the week, and so far for the year, across the Tuscarawas Valley. The official record high in New Phila is 91° set in 1962, and while the forecast tops the daytime high at 90° this afternoon, a few of our neighborhoods will likely tie or even surpass the official record.

Tuesday’s record is 94°, so there’s not much of a chance any area locations will break the high temperature record tomorrow.

On top of the very warm temperatures today and tomorrow, the humidity won’t be extreme or anything, but it will be noticeably more humid. It’s been a while since we’ve experienced conditions this warm and humid.

You’ll notice a dip in both temperature and humidity mid-week. The ridge of high pressure that will bring mainly clear skies today will break down as a cold front approaches eastern Ohio on Tuesday. Showers and thunderstorms will become likely as Tuesday progresses, then become likely in the afternoon and evening.

Current model trends indicate a better environment for severe thunderstorms developing in western Ohio earlier in the afternoon and weakening as they travel eastward into our area, most likely after 5:00 PM and toward evening. Still, a storm capable of strong wind gusts can’t be ruled out in our area late in the day tomorrow, and the Storm Prediction Center has our area highlighted for a Level 1, Marginal Risk.

SPC Day2 Outlook updated 3:11 PM 5/18/26.

As of the Monday morning model runs, the highest odds of a strong gusty storm in our local area look to peak from about 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

The cold front will take its sweet time and probably won’t transition our vicinity until after sunrise on Wednesday morning. That means low-end chances of showers and maybe some spotty thunder will continue overnight Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Our weather will gradually trend drier on Wednesday afternoon as the front exits eastward. Temperatures and dewpoints will also trend downward on Wednesday behind the front.

High pressure will build back into the region on Wednesday night and Thursday. Thursday will also be the coolest day of the week with daytime highs generally running just shy of 70°.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
Although it’s still early in the game, our weather doesn’t appear promising for the Memorial Day weekend. Current modeling depicts a trough of low pressure moving into the region from the Plains on Friday. This will likely result in an unsettled weather pattern with periods of showers and storms.

European Model: Saturday AM.

It’s early in the forecast cycle, and specific timing at this point is improbable at best. However, the first round of rain is likely at some point on Friday, with widespread rain moving in Friday night into Saturday. Persistent cloud cover will probably hold temperatures back some, especially on Saturday. Some improvement will be possible on Sunday, although chances of precipitation will remain through Memorial Day.
