A Toasty Independence Day with Maybe a Strong Thunderstorm

Daily thunderstorms remain a possibility Saturday through Monday, mostly during peak heating times in the mid-afternoon and evening. Some storms could contain strong wind gusts and tropical downpours.

Much as it was on Friday, scattered thunderstorms are once again expected to develop during peak heating times this afternoon and evening. Some storms may utilize the elevated instability in the upper levels of the atmosphere across east-central Ohio to become organized and produce strong wind gusts.

The timing for today is a little earlier than yesterday, but otherwise, the threats from any of the stronger storms remain the same – strong wind gusts. Although storms may still be wandering around after 10 PM, the risk of them being severe will be much lower.

While temperatures on this Independence Day will continue to be hot, daytime highs today won’t be quite as toasty as in the last handful of days. A Heat Advisory is in effect for our area until 8:00 PM this evening. Heat index values will run in the upper-90s to around 102° this afternoon.

With daytime highs expected in the low-90s today, it’ll still be one of the top 10 hottest July 4ths on record in our area over the last 25 years.

Have a great Fourth of July! Be safe out there.
