The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has upgraded the overall risk of severe thunderstorms in our area to Enhanced Risk (Level 3 on a scale of 1-5).
All storm modes are in play on Thursday including:
- Damaging wind gusts
- Large hail
- Tornadoes
The risk for local flooding due to heavy rain has decreased somewhat due to the fact that storms should move through the area quickly. Any storms could, however, produce brief heavy rainfall.
The threat of tornadoes has also increased to a 10% probability within 25 miles of any location. Normally our risk of a tornado is zero so a ten percent risk, while sounding small, is several magnitudes higher than normal.
The timing of an approaching cold front and the amount of warming/sunshine that occurs earlier in the day will play a large role in how strong late-day storms can become. The window of best opportunity for severe storms in and around the Tuscarawas Valley area is between 5 pm and 9 pm on Thursday.
Be weather aware tomorrow and keep up with the latest weather information.
