Dry this week with a late week warming trend

New month, new season. Today is the beginning of meteorological summer – the months of June, July, and August.

We’ve certainly had a stretch of pleasant weather over the last five days, and that trend looks to continue at least through mid-week. High pressure currently over the Great Lakes region won’t depart to the southeast until later in the week, setting things up for a warming trend over the upcoming weekend.

Until then, we can expect dry, fair weather days and mainly clear nights with daytime highs in the mid to upper 70s. A gradual warming trend will get underway on Thursday. Temperatures warm up to the low-80s on Thursday, then mid-80s on Friday. Friday will also bring an uptick in humidity.

We can also expect dry conditions through the workweek before model disagreement brings uncertainty into the weekend and our first respectable chances of rain in over a week. Expect to see some weekend forecast changes as the models grapple with two main scenarios – one of which keeps the dry weather pattern. The second and more likely scenario brings an upper-level disturbance into the region, and together with the warmer and more humid conditions, increases our odds of scattered showers and thunderstorms.

This is only Monday, so we have plenty of time for the models to come into some agreement. For now, we do show shower and storm chances Saturday and Sunday, but we’ve kept them at a low to moderate chance until a clear trend begins to emerge.

I’ll certainly keep you updated going forward this week. Until then, enjoy these beautiful sunny days and mild temperatures. – Joe
