Sunday Morning Severe Weather Update

Posted Sunday, June 25, 2023, 10:00 AM EDT

A warm, humid, and unstable air mass overhead today will bring the threat of strong to severe thunderstorms to east-central Ohio as a cold front approaches the region late tonight.

There will not be much in the way of weather issues today in the Valley. Look for mostly clear skies through morning with daytime temperatures warming to the mid to upper 80s this afternoon. You will notice a definite uptick in humidity with dew points in the upper 60s. A random shower or non-severe storm can’t be ruled out during peak heating this afternoon. Anything that does pop in the afternoon will be non-severe and quick-hitting.

Clouds will gradually increase late in the afternoon as low pressure brings a cold front across the region tonight. Thunderstorms will develop along the front in western Ohio and track into eastern Ohio after 8:00 PM this evening. Some storms tonight could be severe with damaging wind gusts as the main concern. However, large hail and isolated brief tornadoes are also possible.

As of the SPC morning update, western Ohio will have the highest threat of severe thunderstorms late today. The risk decreases as the line of storms moves into eastern Ohio.

Storm Prediction Center outlook issued early Sunday morning. This outlook will likely change somewhat later in the day.

The line of storms will likely reach our area after dark tonight and there is a non-zero risk of brief tornadoes as well as a risk of high wind gusts. Have a reliable way to receive warnings. I’ll post an update later today should there be any significant changes in the forecast.
