While there can be a strong gusty thunderstorm late this afternoon into early evening today, our chances for severe storms will increase on Tuesday across the Tuscarawas Valley.
The Storm Prediction Center has a big chunk of northeastern Ohio highlighted in the “Slight Risk” (Level 2 on a scale of 1 – 5) of severe thunderstorms mainly during the late afternoon into the evening hours on Tuesday.
Strong wind gusts (55 mph or greater) are the primary threat with tomorrow’s storms but there is also a low-end threat (2%) of isolated tornadoes as well.
A 2-4 percent tornado probability is very low but on most days the threat of a tornado is zero so it’s something you need to be aware of. Make sure you have a reliable way to receive warnings.
One factor will play a large role in thunderstorm development tomorrow. About a third of the forecast models show a decent cap in pace overhead that could limit air parcels from getting high enough to become severe. This tells me that the current outlook will likely undergo some changes as the models come into better agreement.
Look for an update Tuesday morning with the latest info from the SPC and hopefully better timing for our area.
