A storm system will push a potent cold front across the east-central Ohio region late this afternoon, followed by periods of mixed wintry precipitation in the Tuscarawas Valley over the next few days. The storm will bring gusty wind, cold rain, and occasional bouts of snow showers to our area tonight through Friday.
We can expect the system to bring mainly wind-driven rain. Mixed rain and snow as well as snow showers are likely with the storm at times.
Local snow accumulation will be meager at best. Ground and road surfaces remain in the low to mid-50s so most of the snow that does fall should melt. The exception would be if any bands of heavy snowfall would occur. This could result in slushy accumulation in some spots. Otherwise, area roads should just be wet. Grassy areas and elevated surfaces (vehicles, elevated decks, etc.) could also accumulate snow – especially Thursday night into Friday morning. I wouldn’t expect much more than a half-inch of wet snow.
Gusty wind will also be an issue in the next few days. Wind gusts as high as 35 mph are likely later today tonight, and Thursday. Wind gusts 30 mph range are likely on Friday and Saturday. The windy conditions will also result in wind chill temperatures in the low to mid-20s.
As the system pulls east toward the Atlantic, temperatures are forecast to warm into the low-40s by Friday afternoon. Snow showers look to end Friday morning leaving us with just a cold blustery rain Friday afternoon into Saturday morning. Dry conditions return Saturday night and Sunday.
All-in-all, this will be a low-impact event. It will be cold, rainy, and blustery the next few days but thankfully we’re not in the dead of winter. If this were January or February we would be dealing with a major snowstorm.
