Snow Showers Continue Today; A Wintry Mix on Saturday; Arctic Cold Early Next Week

A clipper system will continue to bring snow showers of varying intensity throughout the daytime hours today. Those snow showers will taper off after sunset this evening becoming more scattered overnight into early Friday.

FUTURECAST Radar through 2:00 AM Friday.

Most of this will be light to moderate but there can be the occasional overperforming band of heavier snowfall at times. There can also be occasional breaks. By the time this is over and done early Friday morning we’ll have an additional 1″ – 3″ of snow on the ground.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND
Friday is shaping up to be a halfway decent day. Clouds will gradually clear and allow for some sunshine in the afternoon. Daytime highs will even warm to a few degrees or so above freezing.

Those relatively warmer temperatures will continue into Friday night. Clouds will also increase as the next system and another cold front starts to slide into eastern Ohio. This system will bring a mixed bag of precipitation to the Valley on Saturday.

Temperatures late Friday night will hover right around freezing so this may likely start out as slushy wet snow shortly after midnight. As temperatures rise toward sunrise, it’ll likely become a rain/snow mix before becoming all rain for a good part of the day. Toward sunset Saturday evening we may see a transition back to wet snow for a while before this pushes off to the east early Sunday.

Colder and dryer air returns on Sunday and once again, we may even get in on some occasional sun. Temps on Sunday won’t do much better than the low-20s, though.

SERIOUS COLD COMING
I’ve been talking about this for a few days but I want to make everyone in the area aware of the very cold temperatures that are expected Monday through Wednesday. We’ve been blessed with relatively mild winters for a number of past seasons and we’re not used to temperatures getting this cold.

Below-zero temperatures are likely Monday and Tuesday morning and daytime highs are likely to max out in the mid single-digits. Wind chills could be in the -15° to -25° range. Early morning temps will be especially brutal. This is busted water pipes, the car won’t start, my face is frozen, and the furnace can’t keep up cold.

It won’t last long. The coldest days will be Monday through Wednesday. However, temperatures this cold can cause some real headaches in this short three-day period.

As always, thanks for taking a few minutes to catch up with our local weather. Be safe out there
