April will go into the record books as a warmer-than-average month in our area, but this warm weather pattern is about to change.
Tuesday will likely be the last day we see daytime temperatures in the 70s for a while. Colder air in the northwest will migrate southeastward on Wednesday behind a cold front. Once this colder air spreads into east-central Ohio, it’ll stick around as we close out April and head into the first week or so of May.

Wednesday’s cold front will be accompanied by a fairly wet period, especially during the morning and early afternoon. Rain during the second half of the day appears to be scattered. Temperatures will also peak in the mid-afternoon, then begin to decline through the latter half of the day. This will set our area up for a string of chilly days through the end of the week and well into next week.

While this weekend looks to bring the chilliest temperatures of the period, our temperatures do appear to remain below normal into mid-May.

With regard to nighttime temperatures, I don’t see any indication of a freeze in our area over the next seven nights. But if you have plants or flowers started already, you may want to keep close watch on the nighttime low temperature forecast for Friday and Saturday night. These will be the coldest nights in the near term with the best conditions for frost.

So basically expect a cooler weather pattern over the next week or two. After that, we may be able to get back to more seasonal temperatures. Let’s hope so, anyway.
