A couple of rounds of thunderstorms are possible today in the warm, moist, and unstable air mass we’ve been stuck under these last few days.
The first round of storms is expected early this afternoon, and will be mostly confined to areas north of our area along and north of US-30. Any severe weather in this first batch will be isolated and not much of an issue for the Tuscarawas Valley area.
This first batch will be the focus for the development of a second round of scattered thunderstorms that will likely impact parts of our area this evening. Some of the storms late today and tonight could be severe. The NWS Storm Prediction Center has placed our area in a Level 2, Slight Risk.

The main threat from thunderstorms late today will be damaging winds, and to a lesser degree, large hail. There is also a very low, but non-zero risk of an isolated tornado.

This morning’s high-resolution models show that most of the thunderstorm activity today and tonight will occur in areas north of the Valley. However, if we can manage to get some clearing and warming sun during the afternoon today, storms this evening could wander south.
While the severe risk in our area should mostly end by 11 PM, sub-severe thunderstorms will remain a possibility through much of the night and early Thursday.
THURSDAY
The severe weather threat continues on Thursday as a weak front slides south through eastern Ohio. More cloudiness is expected on Thursday, which will work to lessen the severe storm potential. The SPC has most of the state highlighted for a Level 1, Marginal Risk, mainly for the potential of damaging wind gusts.

We’ll revisit Thursday’s severe risk later tonight after things settle down from today’s activity.
After a quiet, calm day on Friday, a potent cold front will move through eastern Ohio on Saturday. This will trigger another round of potentially severe weather, most likely late in the day. Seasonal temperatures will return on Sunday and remain for much of next week.
