Posted 4:20 PM Sunday, 08/16/2026 | The line of severe-warned thunderstorms this afternoon will continue to travel southeast and out of the area as the rest of the afternoon progresses.

The atmosphere is pretty much worked over, but it will experience some recovery through this evening. This slight recovery will allow for a few scattered showers and even a few thunderstorms to redevelop. Any additional storms should remain sub-severe the rest of the afternoon and evening as a cold front moves through the area later tonight.

The risk for heavy rain will gradually subside, especially after the cold front crosses the region later tonight and drier air begins to flow into the region. Until then, some of the scattered cells that develop through the evening could be efficient rain producers. Thankfully, these cells should progress rather quickly and any downpours are expected to be brief.
MONDAY & TUESDAY
A low-end chance for additional showers will continue early Monday, but the general trend will be improving conditions as high pressure builds into the Great Lakes region. We can also expect fair weather through Tuesday with slightly cooler temperatures and less humid conditions.

The next system will bring another cold front through the area sometime on Wednesday (TBD) accompanied by a round of showers and thunderstorms. At this time, any thundery activity is expected to remain sub-severe.
Much cooler and comfortable air will arrive behind this midweek front to finish out the work week.
