Other than periods of light snow showers today, our weather will remain benign across the region through Monday. We’re not expecting much snow accumulation today. Most neighborhoods will see under an inch of snow before this system pulls off to the east coast this evening.
High pressure will build overhead tonight and bring us calm weather for Monday. Clouds will thin out as the day progresses and even allow for some sun to break out during the second half of the day. Temperatures will top out at right about average for our area.
Clouds will begin moving back in overhead Monday night ahead of our next weather system that will impact east-central Ohio on Tuesday and Wednesday.
TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY
While there are yet some unanswered questions regarding our next storm system, we do have a fairly decent idea of the track the storm will take as it moves through the Great Lakes region on Tuesday and Wednesday. Fortunately for us, the current path of the storm keeps our area mainly on the warm side of things. With warm air being funneled in overhead, this will mainly be a rain event for east-central Ohio. Snow will become a factor, though, as the storm pulls away on Wednesday and colder air gets drawn into the departing system.
One of the factors we’re uncertain about is how cold temperatures might be at the surface when precipitation gets underway Tuesday morning. We may see a very brief period of sleet or mixed precipitation to start. There can also be some freezing rain. The window for all of this will be very brief, however. Warm air will quickly flow in from the south and any wintry precipitation will change to all rain.
Another concern with this system is the potential for strong winds. The low-level jet overhead will be cooking at around 60 – 70 knots. Depending on how much of this can mix down to the surface we could be looking at wind gusts in the 40 – 50 mph range at times. Expect to see wind advisories issued for all or parts of the region ahead of this system.
As the system travels off to the north and east Tuesday night the highest winds should back down some. Winds shift to the northwest and colder air will get pulled into the system allowing rain to change over to snow showers. Windy conditions and snow showers will likely be the order of the day on Wednesday.
I’ll take a more detailed look at how much snow we might expect locally and post an update here sometime on Monday. As of now, though, this does not appear to be a big snow producer for our area at this time.
LATE WEEK AND NEXT WEEKEND
Calm weather with temperatures a couple of degrees above average will return to close out the work week. The next chances for impactful weather will return as yet another storm system moves into the region sometime Friday or Saturday. There are a lot of uncertainties this far out with the weekend system but these will get ironed out as we get closer to the latter half of the week.
As always, thanks for reading and relying on TUSCWeather for your local weather updates. Have a great rest of your day.
