A deepening low-pressure system will travel west to east on Sunday. The system will spread snow showers into the Tuscarawas Valley area from the southwest night Sunday night through Monday.
As of 6:00 pm Saturday much of Ohio is under a Winter Weather Advisory or a Winter Storm Watch. Currently, we are not under any winter weather headlines here in the Tuscarawas Valley.
Additional winter headlines are likely as the forecast track of the storm system evolves over the next 24 hours.
APPROXIMATE TIMING
Snow will begin falling in our area around 9:00/10:00 PM on Sunday. Snow is likely to continue through Monday. The steadiest snowfall will taper off and become more intermittent Monday afternoon through Monday night. Occasional snow showers can be expected at least through Thursday.
LOCAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS
This will be a significant storm that will cover a large area. The latest model data suggests that the heaviest snowfall and potential for ice should remain south of the Valley along and south of I-70. In our area, the heaviest snowfall rates are likely to occur Sunday night through early Monday morning. This means that snow is forecast to impact your Monday morning commute to work/school.
Notice: The center of the storm will be off to our south. We normally see most winter storms come in from the northwest or north. This means that we can expect snow amounts to be higher in the southern half of the county and lower in the north.
WHAT CAN SCREW THIS UP?
There is still some model differences in the north/south track the storm will take. A small shift north or south position will have big impact on snowfall rates and amounts. Therefore, the forecast could undergo changes over the next 24 hours. Should it shift a bit to the north, snow amounts will increase.
AFTER THE STORM
The winter storm quickly tracks to the Atlantic Coast late Monday into Tuesday. Lake-enhanced snow showers will continue through at least Thursday. Cold temperatures will remain in place for quite a while so any snow on the ground will be with us for a while.
As always, thanks for choosing TUSCWeather for your local weather info. I’ll post another update on Sunday morning with the finalized snow amounts. Until then enjoy the weather and be safe.
Thanks Joe for all the updates !!
